We see our work also as a contribution to larger efforts to identify of targets for future therapeutic strategies for hematopoietic neoplasms. Our research programme focuses on the role of transcription factors, chromatin regulators and cytoplasmic kinases such as the zinc finger proteins Gfi1 and Gfi1b, the POZ\/BTB transcription factor Miz-1 and the serine\/threonine kinase Pim-1. As a general approach to understand their function, we generate mutant alleles by gene targeting in the mouse; an extremely powerful method that has allowed us to gain deeper insight into a number of critical steps in stem cell self-renewal and hematopoietic differentiation.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>Publications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Khandanpour C, Phelan JD, Vassen L, Sch\u00fctte J, Chen R, Horman S, Gaudreau MC, Krongold J, Zhu J, Paul WE, D\u00fchrsen U, G\u00f6ttgens B, Grimes HL and M\u00f6r\u00f6y T.
