My laboratory is interested in uncovering the molecular mechanism of tumor suppression. These mechanisms involve sensors that detect oncogenic stress and effector pathways that prevent the proliferative expansion of potentially malignant cells. Our work on senescence is leading us towards new mechanism of triggering anti-tumor immune response. We thus view cell senescence, not only as a way to stop the proliferation of incipient tumors but also as a mechanism to alert the immune system of a tumor threat and developing lasting antitumor immunity. Using proteomics, RNA interference and CRISPR screening we have identified many genes with unsuspected roles in tumor suppression and cellular senescence. Many of the genes can potentially regulate the immune system.
